Will the SMU Mustangs be Dancing in March?

What a wild ride it has been. One minute, SMU Alumni are enchantedly rummaging through their closets and basements searching for the dancing shoes they kicked off in ’93, and the next minute they’re sitting in front of their television boxes stunned. Losing to Temple in Philadelphia has the SMU Men’s Basketball team out of the AP Top 25 and into quite the bind. Had the Mustangs eluded the upset and won just two of their final five games, they would be sitting comfortably on top of a 23-8 record with a bid to the NCAA tournament certainly expected. Instead, they face the pressure of two must-win situations vs. Houston and Central Florida (both at home), and a daunting ultimatum:

1) Defeat another ranked opponent [Louisville (Home), UCONN or Memphis(Road)]
     or…
2) Finish near the top at the AAC Conference Tournament (In Memphis).

Despite what Coach Brown and his squad of young, ambitious talent has accomplished in year two, this past weekend’s loss was one of great magnitude reflected by their drop in polls and the 10-point hit they incurred in the RPI (Ratings Percentage Index). The question now is, can they handle the pressure of leading fans to the dance? Because the disco lights are on, and you can bet everyone’s watching.
